Jack Gile, 73 – COPD – 12/12/13
Jack Gile, 73, suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a progressive form of lung disease characterized by coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Jack received his first autologous stem cell treatment, meaning stem cells derived from his own body, at the end of July 2013.
“We didn’t notice any change until about four weeks out, and then all of a sudden he started feeling a lot better, and it just got better, and better, and better,” his wife, Terry Jo said.
Jack’s treatment outcome was so successful; they decided to visit Lung Institute again in October for a booster treatment in order to continue this positive momentum into the holiday season. Jack is now able to perform some of life’s simplest activities more easily and his overall quality of life has improved dramatically.
“We’re just really thrilled. Everyone has been so nice, and so interested in making sure that he gets better,” Terry Jo said.
Peter Pike, 68 – COPD – 10/25/13
Peter Pike is a 68-year-old COPD sufferer that has been struggling with life-altering symptoms for many years.
If you would have asked Pike a year ago to describe his daily routine he would tell you that it takes him 30 minutes to take a shower, that he has difficulty walking from place to place, and that he easily gets winded when playing with his grandchildren. Besides the physical symptom of shortness of breath, like many COPD sufferers, Pike would tell you that his quality of life has been significantly impacted.
After receiving stem cell treatments, derived from his own body, Pike is feeling considerably better. His 30 minute showers now take less than 15 minutes, he is able to walk and get around without the constant use of supplemental oxygen, and he is now able to play with his grandchildren without feeling short of breath. Overall, Pike feels that his quality of life has improved significantly.
“My exercise tolerance has gotten better; I can exercise longer, and make it a little harder every day. I try to do a minimum of 45 minutes…my wife tells me my disposition is better. I’ve got my voice back, I’ve got more power in my voice which I didn’t have before. It’s been a positive experience,” Pike said.
