Taking a walk is a low-impact way to maintain good lung health, even if you have a chronic lung disease. However, you may be worried that getting a daily walk in may be tough when you’re in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for cellular therapy at Lung Health Institute. Finding a great place to walk nearby isn’t something to worry about in this city. Here are 2 parks with popular walking trail options that you should check out:
1. Emerald View Park
Sitting on 257 scenic acres on the Duquesne Heights, Emerald View Park has lots of beautiful walking trails to offer. There are many trails running through the woods and 4 loop trails that range from 1 to 2 ½ miles in length. Several of the trails overlook the Monongahela River, and there are many scenic overlooks that appear seemingly around every turn in the trail.
The park also offers other facilities that you can take advantage of. For instance, there is a public pool and multiple basketball courts you can use. There is a dog park where you can let your furry companion run around off leash. You’ll also find plenty of water fountains throughout the park, so you won’t have any problem staying hydrated during your walk.
2. Schenley Park
Originally created in 1889, Schenley Park is made up of 456 acres located in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. The area is crisscrossed by trails and trail loops of various lengths, and these trails run through beautiful woods and open parkland. You can even see the Panther Hollow Lake from one of the trails. If you need a break from the trails, you can check out the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in the northern section of the park.
Patients who are looking for other activities besides walking can also find plenty to do at Schenley Park. You can play a round of golf at the Bob O’Connor golf course, or you can check out the in-park public swimming pool. The Carnegie Museum and Library is another attraction you’ll find within the confines of the park, and it’s always worth a visit.
