When you have a chronic lung disease, inflammation is one of the biggest issues that can affect your ability to breathe. There are many things you can do every day that may help to reduce your lung tissue inflammation, but you may not be aware choosing anti-inflammatory snacks is one of them.
Some easy anti-inflammatory snacks you can eat every day
Our health care team at the Lung Health Institute knows anti-inflammatory snacks should be a part of your diet if you have a chronic lung condition. However, we’re also aware you may not know what makes a snack anti-inflammatory.
You may be aware snacks that are high in carbohydrates may cause your inflammation levels to increase. However, there are other snacks that may be better for your lung inflammation. For instance, there are snacks that are high in healthy fat and moderate in protein content while also having a small amount of carbs, and these snacks may be much better at helping your body control and reduce inflammation. This is why the Lung Health Institute health care team classifies snacks that are high-fat, moderate-protein and low-carb as anti-inflammatory snacks.
Our health care team also knows you may be worried that anti-inflammatory snacks may be hard for you to find. However, we can assure you this isn’t the case. In fact, there are a variety of easy-to-prepare snacks that may help you fight lung tissue inflammation, such as:
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Cheese sticks
- Raw nuts like almonds and walnuts
- Dark chocolate (85 percent or higher recommended)
- Raw pumpkin or sunflower seeds
These are just a few of the anti-inflammatory snacks the Lung Health Institute health care team has included in our three Anti-Inflammatory Initiative™ plans. The foods recommended in these plans may help you to boost your immune system and turn fat into inflammation-fighting fuel if you have a chronic lung condition.
