Donna: A Persistent and Optimistic Woman Faces Pulmonary Fibrosis

At Lung Health Institute, we come into contact with many chronic lung disease patients who have incredible stories and amazing outlooks on their condition and life in general. These stories are the result of great people dealing with chronic lung conditions like pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung disease (ILD). One such story is that of Donna.

Donna’s Journey With Pulmonary Fibrosis

Donna had just undergone several back surgeries and was having trouble breathing. She thought it might be a side effect of the anesthesia, but when she went in to be tested in May 2013, Donna learned she had ILD. Fast forward to May 2018, Donna had moved to Florida and almost forgot that she had a chronic lung disease until what seemed to be a bad case of bronchitis didn’t go away. Donna underwent additional testing and found that she had advanced pulmonary fibrosis with ILD. Based on these findings, Donna realized that she didn’t have much time left and that her decline would be pretty significant, but she wasn’t ready to give up without a fight.
In October 2018, Donna was in line for a double lung transplant when she had a fateful conversation with someone about cellular therapy. After some quick research, she found there was a Lung Health Institute location less than an hour from her home in Florida, and she reached out to our health care team.
Donna had one of our Lung Restoration Treatment Plus™ cellular therapy treatments on November 5, 2018, and she began feeling improvements within 7 weeks of her first treatment. She’s now using less oxygen, and she can do things like walk to the mailbox and take out the trash, which she couldn’t do before. In fact, with the exception of overnight, first thing in the morning and during cardio workouts, Donna doesn’t typically use oxygen at all anymore.
When asked how she was feeling after her Lung Health Institute cellular therapy, Donna said, “I feel fantastic. There are days I don’t even remember I am sick, and that’s pretty awesome.”

Find out How Lung Health Institute Can Help Treat Your Chronic Lung Disease

At Lung Health Institute, our health care team is proud to help people like Donna find effective treatment for their chronic lung disease. We offer 3 Anti-Inflammatory Initiative™ plans, which are also known as AI2™ plans as a treatment option.
Our AI2 plans contain a variety of helpful tips about lifestyle aspects like eating, sleeping, exercising and using supplements. The combination of this information may help you by allowing you to take control of your health and boost your immune system. These plans may even help you train your body to use fats as inflammation-fighting fuel.
We also offer several types of cellular therapy for chronic lung disease patients. When patients receive cellular therapy, or platelet-rich plasma-platelet concentrate (PRP-PC), a sample of the patient’s own blood is taken, and platelets, proteins, growth factors and other helpful cells are separated and concentrated from it. These concentrated cells are then returned into the bloodstream through an IV. The heart then pumps them into the lungs, where they may promote the repair of damaged tissue and reduce inflammation, which may allow patients to Breathe Easier™ and improve their quality of life.
