How to Use Essential Oils for COPD Symptom Treatment

by | Apr 25, 2019 | Blog, COPD

Essential oils are pressed from the leaves, roots, stems and other parts of certain plants. There are many essential oils that can offer benefits for patients treating symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, it’s important that you know some ways to use these oils to treat COPD symptoms.

3 Ways to Use Essential Oils for COPD Symptom Treatment Every Day

Using essential oils correctly is important if you want them to have any effect on your COPD symptoms. However, you may not know the best way to use these oils in your everyday treatments. Since some oils can be used in multiple ways while others can only be used in one way, it’s recommended that you discuss how to use specific oils with a licensed aromatherapy expert. There are 3 general methods to use essential oils for treating your COPD symptoms.
1. You can introduce essential oils into your daily COPD symptom treatment routine with a diffuser. Some diffusers use heat to evaporate oils, but many also allow the oils to evaporate naturally into the air. The diffuser is a great way to get essential oils into the air of places where you spend a lot of time, such as specific rooms of your home or in your office.
2. Use essential oils is to make a chest rub. Such chest rubs are relatively simple to make and can be made in quantity so you can use them over days or weeks. To make a chest rub using an essential oil, you’ll typically start with a carrier oil like coconut oil. Then, you’ll add several drops of the essential oil or oils you’re using to treat your COPD symptoms. Typically, such recipes have a strength of about 15 drops of essential oil to an ounce of carrier oil. Chest rubs are especially great for people on the go.
3. Steam inhalation is another way you can use essential oils to treat COPD symptoms. In some cases, people will add drops of essential oil to boiling water. They’ll then sit over the bowl, cover their head with a towel and breathe in the steam. Another option you should consider is adding essential oils to the water in your humidifier. However, it’s important to make sure you clean your device properly since some essential oils may cause buildup that can reduce the effectiveness of humidifiers.

Finding Natural COPD Treatments Is What We’re All About at Lung Health Institute

One mission we’re dedicated to at Lung Health Institute is helping COPD patients find natural treatment options. To help us in this mission, our health care team has created several natural treatments.
One of the natural treatments we offer is our 3 Anti-Inflammatory Initiative™, or AI2™, plans. Our AI2 plans contain a variety of helpful tips and information that may help you eat, sleep and exercise better when you have COPD. These plans are also designed to help boost your immune system and train your body to use fats as inflammation-fighting fuel.
Another natural treatment option we offer COPD patients is cellular therapy. This procedure is minimally invasive, and it uses concentrated platelets and cells from your own blood to target lung disease. These platelets release healing properties that, when combined with growth factor, proteins and other helpful cells found in your blood, may help to heal damaged tissue and reduce inflammation in your lungs.
