Stem Cell Treatment Offers New Hope for Alaska Patient

One clinic is actively working to help improve the quality of life for people living with a devastating lung disease. The Lung Institute, located in Tampa, FL, Nashville, TN and Scottsdale, AZ, has performed over 600 regenerative stem cell procedures that continue to benefit patients like Audrey Sunnyboy. After her recent treatment, she is able to enjoy many of the activities that once proved to be too difficult.

Audrey lives in Fairbanks, Alaska where the average temperature year round is 28 degrees Fahrenheit. Several years ago, she was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This condition commonly includes the symptoms of coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Often, patients will need the help of supplemental oxygen just to breathe. Needing relief from all of these symptoms, Audrey started to look for alternative treatments.

That is when she discovered the Lung Institute and stem cell treatment for COPD. Stem cell therapy is a minimally invasive process that involves extracting stem cells, and then reintroducing them to cue the body’s natural healing processes. The stem cells are taken from the patient’s own body, so there is no risk of rejection.

This past August, Audrey and her husband Harry made the journey from Fairbanks to Tampa for treatment. After three days, they returned home to wait for the results. In a follow-up, Audrey has described being able to breathe better and needing less oxygen support. Her husband has also commented on her progress since their visit.

“When we used to go to the store, she needed to use a walker,” said Harry. “Now I can’t keep up with her. Even our family and friends can see an improvement.”

“After my first treatment, I am feeling better,” said Audrey. “I’ll be able to go berry picking this summer and I can’t wait!”
