The Medical Screening Process at Lung Health Institute

by | Oct 17, 2019 | Blog, Lung Disease

At Lung Health Institute, there are pre-treatment steps new patients must complete before receiving cellular therapy. One of the first steps in the treatment journey is obtaining and reviewing medical records. Patient safety is our biggest concern. We want to make sure we have relevant information about your specific lung disease and overall health before we move ahead with treatment.

Keep reading to learn more about how we conduct the medical screening process, and why we request your medical records for review.

What Is the Medical Records Request Process?

Our staff will not request your private medical records without your permission. We will ask you to fill out an authorization to release protected health information to Lung Health Institute. You can download the authorization form on our Patient Resources page — here — and fax or mail it back to our office.

After we receive your consent, our medical records coordinators will send record requests to your health care providers. We’ll ask for medical records from your primary care physician, as well as specialists like your pulmonologist. Your doctors will send us records that contain your medical history, current conditions, office notes. We also request recent test results from blood work, pulmonary function tests and chest X-rays.

What Is the Medical Records Screening Process?

After Lung Health Institute receives your medical records, our licensed providers will review them. Our providers will look at your medical history, past procedures, current condition and symptom severity and test results. We require a medical screening to determine if you are a candidate for cellular therapy. At Lung Health Institute, we believe in a comprehensive approach to lung disease treatment. It is our goal to provide you with a treatment that we believe has a chance to be effective for your condition.

What Is Cellular Therapy?

Cellular therapy is an innovative procedure that uses your own cells to treat chronic lung disease from within the lungs. During treatment, our clinicians will draw a small venous blood sample. They transfer the sample to our in-house lab, where platelet-rich plasma-platelet concentrate (PRP-PC) is isolated and separated. The concentrated cells are reintroduced to you, and within 2 heartbeats, they become caught in the lungs via the Pulmonary Trap™.

Once the concentrated cells are trapped in your lungs, they have the potential to reduce airway inflammation and slow the progression of your disease. In clinical studies, PRP-PC is linked to anti-inflammatory effects. Cellular therapy may help decrease the frequency and severity of your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

If you have questions about your medical records or the cellular therapy process, Lung Health Institute offers patients a free consultation with one of our providers. We encourage all new patients to take advantage of this service. Our providers will be able to answer questions about your medical records and test results, as well as the potential benefits of cellular therapy.
