Taking care of our patients and hearing their stories is one of the best things about working at the Lung Health Institute. After 44 years in the healthcare field, I have been around a lot of patients with lung disease at various stages and cared for them through those stages. [The Lung Health Institute is part of] a ground-breaking area of healthcare, and I wanted to be a part of this journey. Over the years, I have worked in most other fields of healthcare and I wanted something new and innovative.
It is truly amazing to hear the change in a patient’s voice and it is exciting to have given them their life back.
We have a patient whose lung disease had really started to slow her down, and now she is back to traveling and working part time.
We had a patient who just wanted to get home to Bosnia. He was able to make the trip and spend several months there when he had [previously] been given three months to live before he came to Lung Health Institute.
We had a patient who lived at 9,000 feet in a small town in New Mexico. The whole community came together and raised the money for his treatment so he could make it to Christmas and play Santa one more time. He came to Lung Health Institute in July and lived until February.
But my very favorite part of [my job at the] Lung Health Institute is working with the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure to know. They are the heart and soul of this clinic. These people are “my why” and they are the ones who make our clinic a wonderful place to be.
